What type of wood do you use?
A variety of woods are used however most are made from Birch, Oak, Cedar, or Pine.
Do you do custom work?
Not at this time but possibly in the future. Contact us with pictures of what you seek and we can discuss it.
How long does it take to make a Spirit Face?
From beginning to end depends on several factors. Each carving though is individual and the time frames vary from a few days to a few weeks.
Are all your carvings made by hand?
Yes. Only high speed rotary tools are used to remove the wood free hand and no computers, lasers, or digital machines are used in their creation.
What finish is used on the pieces?
Many of the pieces are stained or burned, sanded, then receive a coating of Polyurethane or Shellac to protect them.
How do I maintain a carving?
The carvings are intended to be displayed indoors where the protective coating they have should last a considerable amount of time however if you place it in direct sunlight or display it outside, it can begin to deteriorate in color and protective coating over time. It can be lightly re-sanded and re-coated.
Am I guaranteed never to get a splinter handling your carvings?
Unfortunately, no. While we have sanded each piece, in an effort to remove all possible loose wood, some of the pieces are still drying and as they dry, wood pieces can protrude. Most of these can be pulled off or sanded off without affecting the face, as most of them will be on the sides or back of the piece. We suggest to all to use due caution when handling any of our work.
Do you ship internationally?
Not at this time. We intend to do this in the future though and if anyone needs international shipping now, contact us and we can discuss it.
Do you carve pieces other than Spirit Faces?
Yes. They will be posted here in the future.
How are the carvings packaged for shipping to prevent damage?
All our carvings will be packaged with the utmost care to ensure it reaches you in the same condition it left our shop. Unfortunately sometimes, delivery people don't use the care and control we'd like them all to use in delivering what we purchase. We do our best to cushion each piece to withstand abnormal handling.
Are your wood carvings child-safe (do they contain sharp edges, etc.)?
Our products are not intended for children to handle. They have a protective coating that is poisonous if ingested and they could obtain a splinter. We do not recommend you give children access to them.
